Wright Works Project Manager

What it does

Wright Works Projects is a free startup utility that allows you to manage your frequently used documents, both those based on the Wright Works templates and those based upon other templates.

After installation, You will have a new menu item on your word File Menu (regardless of what kind of document you have open).

This menu item, wwProjects, will display a dialog box that allows you to create, open, and manage projects created with the Wright Works suite of Word add-ins.

Note:  This template is currently included as an optional component with BookWright, ScriptWright and PlayWright.  If you've installed a previous version of wwProjects, you can update by downloading this installation.

Creating a New Project

The first time you run the command you will see the following dialog:

Which buttons are enabled depends upon which of the templates you have installed.  The project manager currently will recognize if you have ScriptWright, BookWright, or PlayWright  installed on your system.

The fourth button will display the standard File New Dialog box.

Note:  if you create a new project using one of the Wright Works templates, you should not cancel the process of setting the title page and saving.

Also Note:  The newly created project will not automatically be added to the projects list (this is on the wish list).  For now you will have to re-run wwProjects and go to the Add/Remove tab.

Adding a Project to the manager

Once you have created a project, you can add it to a readily accessible list of Projects.

To do so simply load the document in question (it doesn't have to be a Wright Works document), run Wright Works Project and click on the Add/Remove Tab.  You will see the following dialog box:

The first button on the add/remove tab acts upon the currently highlighted item in the project list.

The second button will always act, either adding or removing, on the currently loaded document.  If the document is already in the project list, the first button will remove it.  If not, it will, as in the above example, add.

If the currently loaded document has not been saved (i..e. is still titled Document1), then the Add button will not be available.

Opening a Project document from the list.

After adding a document to the project list, every time you run Wright Works Projects, you will be presented with the Open tab of the dialog:

There are three options.

Open -- simply opens the document.

Open Folder -- displays the Word File Open dialog box in the folder containing your document.  Useful if you wish to open one of the projects associated files, such as the scrapfile or notepad.

Note:  documents opened with this button will be added to the MRU list.

Explore Folder -- open the Windows Explorer with the document's folder as the starting point.  Useful if you wish to copy your projects to a floppy, or simply explore the contents of the project folder.

Running WW Projects at Startup

Note:  If you check the Run WWProjects when Word starts checkbox, then whenever you open Word you will first be presented with the Open dialog box, except when you open Word with a file name, that is, except when you double click/click on a file in Windows Explorer, or select a file from the Start.Documents menu.

Adding a Wright Works button to the standard toolbar

By default, the only thing Wright Works Project does is to add a menu item to the File menu.

If you would like to access WWProjects from your toolbar, do the following.

  1. Select the View menu, the Toolbars popout menu, the Customize menu Item.

  2. On the Commands tab, select Macros in the left hand list.

  3. In the right hand list, at or near the bottom, you will find a macro named WWProjects.WW.Projects

  4. Drag that item to the location on the toolbar where you want to put the button (I suggest 1st).

  5. Optionally you can then change the icon by right clicking on the newly added button.

This will add a button to your Normal.dot on the standard toolbar.
